That's going to be with me for life...
The swelling is all but gone leaving a nice bony lump where one part of my collarbone ends and sits on top of the other part.

New CBC shirt....
So I mentioned below Michael's insane run in with fixter to end all fixters... Well today Ellen Bucher came by to take some reference pictures for the t-shirt to commemorate this extremely retarded moment in Richmon's fixed gear cultural history. I asked Starr to do her best to look like a total hipster douche bag and I have to say her transformation was quite impressive. When she walked out of the back with her cut off shirt and glasses I had to fight the urge to slap the stupid off her. The look she managed to put on her face almost makes me want to quit bikes just to avoid the risk of ever being associated with the people she is dressing up as. Almost. Instead I'll just make fun of it. I can only hope that for some strange reason I happen to be in the same place at the same time wearing this shirt as the young lady that inspired it when she sees it for the first time.
So here is the first step towards the finished product... drink it in...
I could not possibly make this up...
Two movies came out in 2008 that have blown my mind with their mere existence.
JC In Tha Hood: "The timeless story of JC -- Jesus Christ -- is updated and moved into the violent streets of the inner city, where four lost souls, including a prostitute, a gangbanger and a drug addict, wrestle their inner demons and even face the devil himself. But when an urban Christ arrives to show them hope, they discover their suffering just might lead them to salvation. This edgy drama stars Dale Stelly as Jesus and Sid Burston as the devil."
Lost Boys, The Tribe: " After their parents die in a car accident, Chris Emerson (Tad Hilgenbrink) and his sister, Nicole (Autumn Reeser), move in with their quirky Aunt Jillian in her California beach town. Soon Nicole falls for a local surfer, who, unbeknownst to her, is also a vampire. Now Chris finds himself battling the whole gang of vampire surfers in an effort to rescue his sister. Corey Feldman and Corey Haim co-star in this sequel to 1987's Lost Boys"
WTF?

New designs and more stupidity...
A few new projects in the works...
First off is the very first sketch for a simple new cbc shirt. Cliche? For sure... cool anyway? I think so...
Next is the almost finished result of much talk between a couple of really dorky bike racers.
I have a hunch there are at least a few more out there who enjoy Minor Threat as much as they enjoy the Tour De' France. We shall see...
Last thing in the works today started with one of the more idiotic things I have heard about this week. Mike Ramey was riding along on his mountain bike minding his own business. He was wearing a Pace Cycling cap as he often does. Some random girl on a fixed gear (not a track bike from what I understand) does some weird skid in front of him, opens her mouth, and out comes this gem: "you better be riding a fixed gear if you are going to wear that hat, poser".
Wow.
Take a moment and just let that sink in.
Wow.
Anyway... funny stuff. Funny enough to be immortalized on a t-shirt? We will find out. The "photo shoot" for the t-shirt design will be tomorrow. I can't wait.

Crazy schemes...
I don't drive much. I own a car that is usually driven to work my my wife. I'm lucky in this regard because high gas prices have a small effect when you don't buy much gas. BUT there are still problems. Heating oil. Not that heating oil is not a bad enough way to heat your home (last winter we spent about $1500 or so on heating our house) but with the current price of home heating oil my winter bill could be in excess of $5000. That's fucked up. $5000 to stay warm. Suffice to say we will be wearing sweaters and turning down the thermostat. But this prospect of going broke to stay warm got Sarah and I thinking. The fall project will most likely involve putting in a wood stove. I'm into the idea.
Save money? Check.
Good excuse to swing and axe around and chop wood? Double check.
We also lucked out and met a guy who is saying bye bye to oil heat too. He converted his house to electric but still had a tank full of oil in the back yard. He has been trying for months to get ride of it. He was only asking $100 for about 200 gallons of the stuff. That's over a thousand dollars worth of oil. No takers. Why you ask? How would you go about moving 200 gallons of oil? Not easy. Faced again with that prospect of a crippling heating bill we have a plan.
Step one: Find 55 gallon drums. Found some on Craig's list for less than $50
Step two: Get one of these:
Less than $50 with shipping on ebay. Check.
Step three: Break collar bone. Check... oh goddamnit!
Step four: convince father in law to drive up from the Lynchburg area with his van to help us move the oil.
Thursday is the day we swing into action. Of course by "swing into action" I mean I will be watching Sarah and her Dad do all the work.
End result... We spend about $250 and get $1000 worth of oil.
Pretty sweet.
Let's hope it works.

New blog...
No big deal. Something to keep up with what happens to be happening...
As of right now:
Collar bone still broken-starting to mend. It doesn't hurt all the time any more but it will still be weeks before it's done healing. I tried an exercise a friend suggested where you put the fingertips of the bad arm on the wall in front of you. Start walking them up the wall. I did not get very far. I take things for granted. At least I can take my arm out of the sling for fairly long periods of time.
Still bummed out about the timing. Not that I'm a bad ass by any stretch of the imagination but for the first time all summer I was feeling really good on the bike. Last lap I go down at 30+ miles per hour. Trip to the emergency room with no insurance. Great times.
Not being able to ride is a dangerous thing. It gets me thinking even more about nerdy bike shit. Instead of just riding my bike I think about building new ones or at least switching out parts. Bad ideas all of them... don't tell Sarah. She knows I'm hopeless. Ebay only makes this worse. I don't want to jinx it but there is a certain something on there right now that I would love to add to my collection. Like I said... bad ideas all of them.
Time not being able to even write or type seems to be a great source of inspiration. Now that I can actually move a pencil and keyboard I'm hoping I will stay motivated. Painting has been pretty sparse this year. I keep making the excuse of being too busy with work, riding, putting on races, blah blah whatever... but I still make time to watch whatever movie netflix sends me. Giving up regular TV made life easier but I still never seem to have enough time.
